The science of sleep reminds me of Freud. Human behavior is still largely governed by the unconscious, sometimes illogically. Stephen, the leading actor in the film, can't tell the difference between dream and reality. He has a subconscious feeling that no one loves him.

Everything in the movie is ridiculous and cute. Perhaps words and pictures reveal a subconscious predestined to be ridiculous. And the loveliness of the details that the audience feels is actually rooted in the fact that we are very familiar with this illogical and indescribable experience deep in our hearts, and we feel intimate instinctively.
